Bairaskund Temple

Bairaskund is the name of the place where Ravana made Brahma ji with the blessing of the mundus was given to the grandfather of Brahma by the place where Ravana made the sacrifice of the muons. This place is about 10 kms from Nandprayag under the Pargana Dasholi of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state.

According to Hindu mythology, Ravana worshiped Lord Shiva in the Bairaskund Mahadev Temple. This is the tapasthi of Ravana, this village has many small and big ponds. It is also known as Siddhapeeth Bairaskund.  It starts here every day at 4 am. The temple's chief priest and monk, Nepali Maharaj, worships Lord Shiva and offers water to Lord Shiva, and the puja is performed till 12 noon. People from the village and surrounding villages come to the temple to worship Lord Shiva and various religious ceremonies are organized by the villagers throughout the year. The temple committee organizes a religious fair in the temple during Maha Shivaratri. People from different regions attend the fair and pray to Lord Shiva. In the month of Sawan, there is a flow of devotees to offer water to Shiva.

The temple of Ravana's land of Bairaskund Mahadev is situated near Vikas Nagarghat. This temple is situated on a hill. Here is the ancient temple of Mahadev Shiva, whose archana has been worshiped for centuries. According to the stories, in Tretayuga, Ravana, the supreme devotee of Shiva, did the unbroken penance of Mahadev Shiva. This place is also found in religious texts like Ravana Samhita and Kedarkhand Shastra. The mention of this temple started from Tretayuga itself. Even today the number of devotees keeps queuing up to see Mahadev Shiva. There is also a pool in front of the temple, in which the amount of water is quite high. According to the legends, when Mahadev Shiva did not see Ravana even after performing intense penance, Ravana worshiped Shiva by worshiping Shivatandava and chanting at this place and offering his ten heads to Shiva and pleased him. The places where Ravana placed his head in ten places are called Dasamoli.

By Road - To visit the Bairaskund Mahadev Temple, you take the route to Badrinath. The route leaves from Nandprayag. Buses and taxis to Nandprayag are easily available from major cities of Delhi and Dehradun. From Nandapreg you can take a taxi to Kamandal bridge and then to Bairaskund Mahadev Temple.

Train- The nearest railway station from Bairaskund Mahadev Temple is Rishikesh railway station. It is about 126 kilometers from Rishikesh railway station to Chamoli. From Rishikesh you can go by bus or taxi

Airport - Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Bairaskund Mahadev Temple. Jolly Grant Airport is located 214 km from Nandprayag. From Jolly Grant Airport to Nandapreg you will easily get a taxi.
