Many Hindus visit this temple as a religious form of pilgrimage as Nanda Devi is considered as the "destroyer of evil" and the wanderer of Kumuna. Its history is more than 1000 years old. Among the Durga mentioned in the Bhavishyapurana are Mahalakshmi, Nanda, Nanda, Kshemkari, Shivduti, Mahatunda, Bhramari, Chandramandala, Revathi and Harsiddhi. Nanda Devi Raj Jat is a religious visit of a Nanda Devi to be held in Uttarakhand state of India. It is one of the most famous cultural events in Uttarakhand. It is held after about 12 years. The last caste was in 2014. The next reign will be in 2026.

Raj jat or Nanda jat means journey of Raj Rajeshwari Nanda Devi. In the Garhwal region, the "Jat" (Devyatra) of the Gods and Goddesses is celebrated with great pomp. Jat means "Devyatra". Public belief is that Nanda Devi visits her maternal home in the Krishna Paksha of Bhadava in Hindi month. After a few days, he is sent off from his maternal home on the day of Ashtami. Rajajat or Nandajat Yatra is the journey of Goddess Nanda to her in-laws as an adorned savory bride. On this occasion, Nanda Devi is seated in a doli and given a traditional farewell by giving clothes, jewelery, food grains, kalewa, dooj, dowry etc.  

According to folk history, Nanda devi was the Isht devi of the Katyuri dynasty of Kumaon along with the kings of Garhwal. Being a presiding deity, Nanda devi is referred to as Rajarajeshwari. Nanda devi is seen as the sister of Parvati, but in some cases, Nanda devi is considered as the form of Parvati. Prominent among many names of Nanda are Shiva, Sunanda, Shubhananda, Nandini. Being worshiped uniformly throughout Uttarakhand, the entire state of Nanda devi has been seen as a source of religious unity. Apart from this, dolian and chhatoli from village to village are also included in this journey. From Kumaon (Kumoyu), Almoda, Katarmal and Chhatoli from Nainital join Nandajeshi and join Rajajat. From Kansuva comes Raja Chatoli, who joins Nanda Bhagwati of Kurud in Nanda Kesari, the second stop of the journey from Kansuva is Nauti. Then the journey returns to Kansuva. After this, traveling from Nauti, Sem, Koti, Bhagauti, Kulsari, Chapados, Lohajung, Vann, Bedini, Patar Nachounia to world famous Rupkund, Shila-Samudra, Homkund via Chananyanghat (Chandinyaghat), Sutol via Ghat to Nandprayag and then to Nauti. The cycle of This distance is about 280 kilometers. 

This Rajjaat also includes the Chausingya Khadu (Sheep with four horns) which is born before the time of the Rajajat in the local area, in a two-sided bag placed on its back, revered ornaments, decorations and other light buffalo For the Goddess, who, after being worshiped in Homkund, departs further towards the Himalayas. People believe that Chausingya Khadu disappears further in the Bikat Himalayas and enters Kailash, the region of Nandadevi.

In the year 2000, this Rajaat got wide publicity and thousands of people from all over the country and abroad participated in it. Rajajat represents the overall culture of Uttarakhand. For this reason, on January 26, 2005, the tableau of the state of Uttarakhand was released on the Rajajat. Roopkund Mahotsav is also being organized by the Department of Tourism for the last few years. Local people have also constituted Shri Nanda devi Raj jat Samiti for the successful conduction of this yatra. Nandadevi Rajajat is organized under the auspices of this committee. According to the tradition, the yatra is announced on the day of Vasant Panchami. After this, the process of its preparations begins. In this, apart from the Nautiyal of Nauti and Kasuwar of Kasuva, along with other related parties like 14 Sayanay of Badhana, 12 Thoki Brahmins of Chandpur and other priests, the District Administration and various departments of the Central and State Government prepared the outline of the program for the journey.
