Bagnath Temple is an ancient Shiva Temple. Bagnath Temple is located in Bageshwar District of Uttarakhand state, India. It is the only ancient Shiva temple in North India, which is south facing, with the Jalhari east side of Shiva Shakti. Here Shiva Parvati is present in the self-proclaimed form among the watercourt. It is the most famous Temple in Bageshwar District and Bageshwar District is also named after this temple. It is located in Bageshwar Nagar at the confluence of Sarayu Gomti and Saraswati (invisible) rivers. The carving of this temple is very impressive. This Temple is located in the rivers Saryu and Gomti in the Vageshwar District of the Indian state of Uttarakhand and its height is 1004 meters above sea level.

Situated at the confluence of the Gomti Saryu River in the lap of the Shail Raj Himalayas is known as the Tapobhoomi of the sage Markandeya. Lord Shiva resided in this place as a tiger, it became known as Vyaghreshwar, which later became Bageshwar. Long ago the "Devalaya", symbolizing the Vyagreshwar form of Lord Shiva, was established at this place, where later a grand temple was built. Which is known as "Bagnath Temple". Some sources suggest that the Bagnath temple existed since the 7th century and the current city style was built in 1450 by the Chand ruler "Lakshmi Chand". Apart from this, various stone sculptures seen in the temple are from the 7th century AD to the 16th century AD. Taxis to Baghnath Temple are easily available from here. The Travelers can take the private bus or Uttarakhand Roadways buses from ISBT Anand Vihar, Delhi to cities like Almora, Nainital, and Haldwani, from where local transport to Bageshwar is easily available.

Bagnath Temple

Bagnath Temple is situated in Bageshwar city. Bagnath temple is completely dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is the most famous temple of Bageshwar district. A very large number of adorer visit this temple. Bageshwar town got this name from Bagnath temple.The total distance of haldwani to Bagnath temple is 152 kms approx by road.Bagnath temple is at the distance of 185 kms from Pantnagar Airport.

The opening & closing time in summer is 05:00 am to 07:00 pm.And the winter timing is  06:00 am to 06:00 pm.

 

Uttarayani Mela is organized in every year in the month of January on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
