Jageshwar Dham

Jageshwar Dham is located near Almora in Uttarakhand state. Jageshwar Dham is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Sadasiva. Jageshwar Dham, popularly known as the City of Temples, is a beautiful city in  Uttarakhand, which is known for its cultural and historical significance. This religious place is home to more than 100 ancient temples, hence it is also known as Jageshwar Valley Temple or Jageshwar Dham. It is said that this is the first temple where the tradition of Shiv Pujan in the form of Linga first started. Jageshwar is also called the fifth dham of Uttarakhand. Jageshwar Dham is considered to be the penance of Lord Shiva. This Jyotirlinga is considered the eighth Jyotirlinga. It is also known as Yogeshwar. This temple is believed to witness the commencement of Shivalinga Puja.

According to the Puranas, Lord Shiva and the Saptarishis performed penance here. It is said that in ancient times the vows sought in the Jageshwar temple were accepted in the same form, which started to be heavily misused. Adi Shankaracharya came here in the eighth century and he arranged to stop this misuse. Now, only Yagyas and rituals can fulfill wishful wishes. It is also believed that Lord Sri Ram's son Luv-Kush conducted a yagna here, for which he invited the gods. It is said that he was the first to establish these temples. There are about 250 small and big temples in Jageshwar. The Jageshwar temple complex has a cluster of 125 temples. The temples have been constructed with large stones of stones.

 

 

 

 

History of Jageshwar Dham

Temples were also built in the same period. For this reason, a glimpse of the Gupta Empire is also seen in the temples. According to the Archaeological Survey of India, the period of construction of these temples is divided into three periods. Katyarikal, North Katyurikal and Lunar period. These courageous kings of Kumaon, settled on the snowy plains, built more than four hundred temples not only in Jageshwar, but in the entire Almoda district, in the middle of a dense forest of cedars with their unique creations, out of which about 250 small and large temples are located in Jageshwar itself. Huh. The temples have been constructed with stone shilaon instead of wood and cement. The door frames are decorated with statues of Gods and Goddesses. Copper sheets and cedar wood have also been used in the construction of temples.

Kathgodam is well connected with major destinations of India like Lucknow, Delhi, and Other States. Trains are frequent to Kathgodam as it is the gateway of Kumaon region.Then you can hire a taxi or a bus from Haldwani Bus Station. You can take a taxi or a bus from Haldwani to Jageshwar Dham.
