The foundation day of the state of Uttarakhand was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 9 November.

Uttarakhand (formerly Uttaranchal) is a state located in North India, which was formed on 7 November 2000, after several years of movement as the twenty-seventh state of the Republic of India. From 2000 to 2007, it was known as Uttaranchal. The state's official name was changed to Uttarakhand in January 2007 keeping in mind the sentiments of the local people. The state borders Tibet in the north and Nepal in the east.
