Twenty years ago, when Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradeshin November 2000, it was the successful culmination of 70-year-old struggle of the people of the hill region for a seperate state.
The main reason of the demand for a seperate state was lack of development in the geographically unique area, rising unemployment gave impetus to the age-old demand for a seperate state.
