Nityanand Swami (Nityanand Sharma) was the first Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttarakhand, at that time Uttarakhand was named Uttaranchal. He was the first Chief Minister of the state from 9 November 2000 to 29 October 2001.He was born on 27 December 1927, and died on 12 December 2012 (aged 84). Swamy was elected as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Dehradun constituency in 1969. In 1984, he was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from the Graduates' constituency of Garhwal and Kumaon.
