G B Pant High Altitude Zoo in Nainital
Nainital Zoo is one of the best attraction for wildlife lovers in Nainital. The zoo is a hot spot for Nainital tourism. The High altitude zoo is located at Height of 2100 meters above sea level. It is located only 1km from the Nainital bus stop. The zoo is home to various animals including Himalayan black bears such as monkeys, Siberian tigers, leopards, wolves, mountain foxes, sambar, ghoral and barking deer and other animals. The zoo is closed on Mondays and all National holidays. This zoo is one of the three high altitude zoos in India, the other two being in Sikkim and Darjeeling.
History of Nainital Zoo
The establishment of the zoo located in the lion's blackjack hill in an area of 4.693 hectares at an altitude of 2100 meters above sea level in Nainital was done in 1984 while it was opened for visitors on 1 June 1995.
